Barn door edge wrap lets you build a finished sliding door from almost any locally sourced wood panel — the steel channels wrap the perimeter, add rigidity, and give the door a clean finished look. Using locally sourced wood rather than a shipped pre-built door produces a more stable result, since the wood is already acclimated to your climate. Two versions are available: one for full-size doors (1-3/8 in to 2-1/4 in thick) and one for cabinet doors and shutters (3/4 in to 1 in thick). For a full comparison of building with locally sourced wood vs. buying a pre-built barn door panel, see our DIY vs. custom barn door guide.
Barn door edge wrap lets you build a finished sliding barn door from almost any wood panel — boards from a lumber yard, tongue-and-groove slats, reclaimed material, or anything you can source locally. The Goldberg Brothers steel channels wrap the perimeter of the panel, adding rigidity, protecting the edges, and giving the door a clean, finished look that works with any hanger style.
The reason this approach often produces a better door than buying one pre-built and shipped: wood moves. It expands and contracts based on temperature and humidity, and it does so differently depending on where it lives. A door built from wood that's already acclimated to your local climate — sourced from a nearby lumber yard or home improvement store — will be more stable long-term than a door that shipped across the country from a different climate zone. Shipping wood over long distances and across climate regions is one of the least predictable parts of any barn door project. Sourcing locally eliminates that variable entirely.
This collection covers two versions of the edge wrap kit: one sized for full-size interior doors (1-3/8 in to 2-1/4 in thick), and one for cabinet doors and shutters (3/4 in to 1 in thick). Hardware kits are sold separately — links to compatible hardware are at the bottom of each product page.

Need something outside the standard range? Custom edge wraps are available for curved doors and door panels up to 3 in thick. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your door dimensions and we'll put together a custom quote.
Not sure which thickness range fits your panel? Measure the panel at its thickest point before ordering. Both kits can be cut down to your specific door size — the listed dimensions are the maximum size in each kit, not a fixed finished size.
For the full pre-order checklist — door width, track length, wall clearance, and ceiling clearance — see our barn door measuring guide.
How to build a barn door with edge wrap
The build process is straightforward. Here's the sequence:
- Source your panel locally. Any wood or composite material works — individual boards, tongue-and-groove slats, reclaimed barn wood, decoratively carved wood, or a pre-made panel from a lumber yard. Sourcing locally means the wood is already acclimated to your climate.
- Cut the channels to size if needed. Each kit comes in a standard maximum size and can be cut down to your exact door dimensions. No special tools required beyond what you'd use for any woodworking project.
- Wrap the panel. The four powder-coated steel channels attach to the perimeter of the door — top, bottom, and both sides. They add rigidity to reduce warping and protect the edges from wear.
- Mount the roller hangers. The included shims position the roller hangers correctly on the door and double as drilling templates for consistent, accurate hole placement. Compatible with Goldberg Brothers straight strap roller hangers — see hardware links below.
- Hang the door. Install your hardware track, hang the door, and install the included adjustable U guide at the floor.
The edge wrap kit includes the channels, mounting screws, adjustable U guide, and shims. Roller hanger hardware, track, and all other sliding hardware are sold separately.
