Barn Door Edge Wrap

Barn doors created with Goldberg Brothers barn door edge wraps

Barn door edge wrap lets you build a finished sliding door from almost any locally sourced wood panel — the steel channels wrap the perimeter, add rigidity, and give the door a clean finished look. Using locally sourced wood rather than a shipped pre-built door produces a more stable result, since the wood is already acclimated to your climate. Two versions are available: one for full-size doors (1-3/8 in to 2-1/4 in thick) and one for cabinet doors and shutters (3/4 in to 1 in thick). For a full comparison of building with locally sourced wood vs. buying a pre-built barn door panel, see our DIY vs. custom barn door guide.

Common Questions

The full-size kit is for standard barn door panels — interior doors, closets, pantries, room dividers. The cabinet kit is for smaller panels: shutters, cabinet doors, and furniture doors at the thinner end of the thickness range. Both use the same channel-and-corner construction; the cabinet kit uses narrower channels scaled to lighter, smaller panels. If your panel is under 18 in wide, the cabinet kit is likely the right choice — email us if you're unsure.

Yes — edge wrap works with any wood species since the steel channels attach to the door edges regardless of material. Hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, and plywood are all compatible. The main constraint is door thickness: 3/4 in to 2-1/4 in for the full-size kit, narrower range for the cabinet kit. See the individual product pages for the exact thickness range of each kit.

Because edge wrap and all Goldberg Brothers hanger hardware use the same powder coat process and color system, finish matching between the two is exact — not approximate. Order edge wrap and hardware in the same finish name and the colors will match. The 16 powder coat colors and raw steel option are available across both.

Edge wrap is compatible with all Goldberg Brothers hardware — standard duty, heavy duty, and cabinet mini. The right choice depends on your door weight and thickness:

  • Full-size doors up to 200 lbs and 1-3/4 in thick: Goldberg Brothers standard duty hardware
  • Full-size doors over 200 lbs or up to 2-1/4 in thick: Goldberg Brothers heavy duty hardware
  • Cabinet doors and shutters: Goldberg Brothers cabinet hardware

All edge wrap kits include shims that double as drilling templates for compatible roller hanger styles. Not sure which hardware fits your door? Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your panel dimensions and we'll confirm before you order.

Yes — edge wrap is designed for retrofitting onto existing panels as well as new builds. The panel needs to be within the thickness range and have clean, straight edges for the channels to seat properly. If your existing door has casing, decorative edge profiles, or raised panels on the face edge, email us before ordering to confirm compatibility. If your door is thicker than 2-1/4 in or has a curved profile, standard kits won't cover it — but custom edge wraps are available for curved doors and thicknesses up to 3 in. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your door dimensions before ordering.
