The Barn Door Hardware Store is based in Oregon. Goldberg Brothers hardware ships from Denver, Colorado. Our house value line ships from warehouses in Georgia and Oregon. All orders ship free to the continental US.

House value line ships in 2–3 business days. Goldberg Brothers is made to order in Denver — standard lead time is 10–15 business days; stainless steel is 14–21 business days.

Yes — 10% off every hardware order, no minimum, no net 30 required. See our trade program page.

Sizing & Measuring

Add 4 in to the opening width for standard rooms (2 in overlap per side), or 6 in for bedrooms and bathrooms (3 in per side). See our measuring guide.

At least 2× the door width — never 2× the opening. A 36 in opening with a 40 in door needs an 80 in track, not 72 in. See our track length guide.

Clear wall equal to the full door width on the slide side. If that's not available, bypass or bifold configurations can solve it. See our configuration guide.

Varies by hanger style: 4 in (straight strap, horseshoe), 4-1/2 in (J-strap), 5-1/2 in (heavy duty and stainless), 9 in (wagon wheel). Ceiling mount: exactly 6 in. See our measuring guide for the full table.

Double bypass: (opening + 6 in) ÷ 2 per door. Single bypass standard rollers: (opening + 10 in) ÷ 2. Track = 3× door width. See our bypass measuring guide.

Installation

Yes in most installations. Mount a 1×6 hardwood board (oak, maple, or poplar — not pine) spanning the full track length into wall studs. Drywall alone will not support the load.

If you have casing or trim around the opening, you'll need one. It includes longer bolts and spacers to bridge trim up to 1-1/4 in. Separate purchase — not included in any kit. Not available for bypass configurations.

Most kits include a floor-mounted T guide. If you have finished flooring you can't drill into, use a wall-mounted guide instead — sold separately. Note: a wall-mounted guide isn't practical for double bypass installations, where the guide sits in the center of the opening. Browse our floor guides collection.

Yes, when there's no solid wall surface above the opening. Requires solid ceiling joists and exactly 6 in between the top of the door and the ceiling — not more, not less. House value line only, 220 lbs, matte black and brushed nickel. See our ceiling mount guide.

Never. Goldberg Brothers hardware uses sealed bearings that run dry. Lubricant attracts debris and increases rolling resistance. Wipe the track with a dry cloth periodically — that's all the maintenance quality hardware requires.

Products & Orders

Goldberg Brothers is made to order in Denver — tighter tolerances, Delrin wheels, all 17 finish colors, 10–15 day lead time. The house value line ships in 2–3 days in matte black and brushed nickel — the right choice for budget-driven projects and lighter doors.

Standard and heavy duty Goldberg Brothers kits do not include handles. Bifold kits do. Handles are a separate purchase. Browse our handles collection and flush pulls collection.

Only stainless steel hardware is rated for outdoor and coastal use. Standard powder-coated hardware will eventually corrode with direct outdoor exposure. Browse our stainless steel collection.

Yes — Soft close is available for single sliding and double bypass configurations only. It is not available for bifold, hidden roller, or single bypass hardware. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com to confirm compatibility with your existing setup.

Yes — solid pine in standard sizes, finished and unfinished. For most projects we recommend sourcing locally: you avoid freight markup and the door arrives acclimated. See our DIY vs. custom guide.

Privacy & Functionality

Yes, with the right setup. Size the door with 3 in overlap per side, add pile or brush pile weatherstrip at the edges, and install a latch. Won't match a sealed hinged door for sound isolation, but adequate for most bedroom and bathroom applications. See our privacy guide.

Barn doors use latches — not locks. A latch keeps the door deliberately closed but doesn't resist forced entry. For spaces requiring a keyed lock, a hinged door with a deadbolt is the right product. Browse our latches collection.

Almost always a leveling issue — the track has a slight grade and gravity pulls the door to the low end. Fix: a small piece of felt on the track at the rest position, or install a latch. See our door drifting guide.

Two doors on one shared track, each sliding from opposite ends to meet in the center when closed. The most visually symmetrical double barn door setup. See our double barn door guide.
