Common Questions

Wagon wheel — the large spoke roller is the most visually prominent hanger in the lineup and the one most strongly associated with the industrial aesthetic. In raw steel or matte black on a dark walnut or ebony door, it's a deliberate statement. Horseshoe wagon wheel combines both visual elements if you want the bracket presence of horseshoe with the spoke wheel roller.

Wagon wheel and horseshoe wagon wheel both require 9 in of ceiling clearance above the door — the large spoke wheel demands significantly more height than standard rollers. Standard horseshoe requires 4 in (standard duty) or 5-1/2 in (heavy duty). Confirm your ceiling clearance before selecting a hanger style — if you're under 9 in, horseshoe is the industrial alternative.

Matte black is the most common industrial finish in residential applications — it's bold, reads as deliberate, and pairs well with exposed brick, concrete, and dark wood tones. Raw steel is the most authentically industrial choice and develops a natural patina over time.

Not always. Wagon wheel and horseshoe wagon wheel are heavy duty only — but J-strap, straight strap, and horseshoe are available in standard duty. If your door panel is under 200 lbs and under 1-3/4 in thick, standard duty hardware in matte black or arch bronze gives you the industrial look at lower cost. Heavy duty hardware adds additional visual weight that suits heavier, more substantial panels.

Standard and heavy duty Goldberg Brothers kits do not include handles — they're a separate purchase. Browse our industrial accessories collection for handles and latches in matching finishes.
