Straight Strap Black Single Bypass Barn Door Hardware Kit

Door thickness: 1-3/8 in to 1-3/4 in.

Ceiling clearance above door: 5 in required. Because the straight strap has no curved arm above the roller, it requires 1 in less clearance than J-strap bypass.

Door overlap when closed: Approximately 6 in at center — the same as J-strap bypass. If a flush center closure is required, see our double bypass hardware.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, we recommend installing a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Door width: Each door must cover half the opening plus your chosen wall overlap on the outer edge, plus account for the 6 in center overlap. For standard rooms: each door = (opening + 10 in) ÷ 2. Example: 60 in opening → (60 + 10) ÷ 2 = 35 in per door. See our measuring guide for full formulas.

Door height: Measure from finished floor to the top of the rough opening and add 1 in. The extra inch covers the top of the opening while leaving 1/2 to 1 in of clearance at the bottom for the door to slide without dragging. If you have thick carpet, check that clearance is adequate along the full travel path before ordering.

Track length: Depends on whether you need pass-through or fully clear access — see track length section below.

Single bypass kits include two roller sets — one for the front door and one for the back door — plus a single shared track.

Front door roller set (bent stair-step hanger):

• 1 bent hanger/roller set (2 rollers) — offsets door forward from wall
• Hex bolt set
• 2 L-shape anti-jump disks
• 1 adjustable wall-mounted floor guide — attaches to the back door and constrains the front door across its full travel range

Back door roller set (standard hanger):

• 1 standard straight strap hanger/roller set (2 rollers) — hangs close to the wall on the shared track

• 2 anti-jump disks
• 1 floor-mounted T guide

Tracks over 7 ft 6 in ship in multiple pieces with a junction plate included. Handles and a latch are not included — add them before checkout to avoid a second shipment.

3-door configuration: Add either an additional standard (flat) hanger set or bent hanger set — a standard flat hanger is recommended for most 3-door setups. The additional set includes the same hardware as the matching set described above.

4-door configuration: Includes 2 standard flat hanger sets and 2 bent hanger sets — double the hardware of the 2-door kit.

Handle: For the room-facing side of each door — browse our handles collection

Steel wheels: Bypass doors should stay under 110 lbs so nylon wheels are usually sufficient. If you prefer the look of metal wheels, steel wheels are compatible — but note they are louder than nylon. Shop steel wheels

Single bypass track length depends on whether you need pass-through access or a fully clear opening.

Pass-through (partial access): Slide one door to one side to access roughly half the opening. The track must be at least the opening width plus the planned door overhang outside the opening on each side. For example: if your opening is 60 in and you want the doors to overhang 2 in past each edge, you need at least a 64 in track — round up to the nearest available length, in this case 5 ft 6 in (66 in).

Clear opening (fully unobstructed): Measure the door panel width, not the rough opening:

2 doors: 3× door width — e.g. two 36 in doors → 9 ft track minimum

3 doors: 5× door width — e.g. three 36 in doors → 15 ft track minimum

4 doors: 6× door width — e.g. four 36 in doors → 18 ft track minimum
