Common Questions

The hanger style affects the look on the door face and the ceiling clearance required. Straight strap has a flat arm with no curved arm above the roller, so it needs only 5 in of clearance vs 6 in for J-strap bypass. The bypass mechanism, track, capacity, and center overlap are otherwise identical. If you have exactly 5 in of clearance above your door, straight strap is the right bypass style.

The front door uses a bent stair-step hanger that positions it forward from the wall. The front door's outer wheel sits between the two wheels of the back door, which runs a standard straight strap hanger close to the track. The interleaved wheels allow both doors to travel the full track. When one door's travel is exhausted its wheels contact the other door's, carrying it along — the telescoping effect. The same interleaving creates the center overlap when the doors are closed.

Partially. Each door moves on its own until it reaches the end of its travel, then the wheel contact engages and carries the other. For fully independent door movement, see our double bypass hardware.

The front door is controlled by an adjustable wall-mounted guide that attaches to the back door — using the back door as a reference point to constrain the front door across its full travel range. The back door uses a floor-mounted T guide. Both are included in the kit. If you prefer not to drill the floor for the back door guide, a wall-mounted alternative is available in our floor guides collection.
