How 4-door biparting bifold works
A 4-door biparting bifold uses two independent 2-panel assemblies — one on each side of the opening. Each assembly has its own pivot bracket on its respective side and a sliding carrier on the shared track. When you open the doors, each assembly operates independently — panels hinging at their center joints while the sliding end travels toward the outside edge of the track. The result is two compact folded stacks, one on each side of the opening, leaving the full width clear.
When closed, the two assemblies meet in the center of the opening. There is no overlap — the door edges meet on the same plane. Alignment plates mount to the bottom of the doors and keep the two assemblies aligned where they meet in the center.
Sizing your 4-door biparting bifold
Track length equals total panel width — not 2× the panel width as with standard sliding hardware. For biparting setups, calculate the total width of all four panels first, then order a track of that length.
| Coverage goal | GB total panel width | HVL total panel width | Track length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum coverage | Opening + 4 in | Opening + 4 in | = Total panel width |
| Fully clear opening | Opening + 10 in | Opening + 12 in | = Total panel width |
House value line requires 2 in more total panel width for a fully clear opening than Goldberg Brothers. Confirm your sizing formula matches your chosen brand.
Example for a 72 in opening (fully clear): Total panel width = 82 in · Track = 82 in · Each panel ≈ 20.5 in wide
Maximum opening coverage: up to 188 in with a 4-door biparting bifold. For openings wider than 188 in, see our 8-door biparting bifold collection. For sizing help, see our measuring guide.

Choosing the right tier — capacity and door thickness
The primary decision between tiers is your door panel weight and thickness. All Goldberg Brothers tiers carry the full 17-color powder coat lineup — capacity and thickness determine the right tier, not the finish.
