Common Questions

The attachment point. J-strap mounts to the front face of each panel, so a strap is visible across the door with the J-curve wrapping over the roller above — that's part of the look. J top mount attaches to the top edge, leaving both faces completely free of hardware. The J-style roller arm is still visible above the door either way. Capacity, panel sizing, and installation requirements are identical, so it comes down to whether you want the strap on the panel faces.

A one-way setup stacks all panels to a single side, so you need clearance on only one side of the opening. Biparting splits from the center with half the panels stacking to each side, so you need clearance on both. Biparting gives a naturally symmetrical look when open without extra sizing work, where a one-way setup needs careful panel sizing to achieve the same balance. Our bifold measuring guide compares all six configurations side by side.

They attach to the bottom of the two center-facing panels — the ones that meet in the middle when the doors are closed — and hold them aligned and flush against each other for a clean, consistent center seam. Set those two panels edge to edge before fitting the plates, either touching or with a gap of up to 1/8 in. Only biparting configurations need them; a one-way setup has no center joint.

For a fully clear opening, 5 in on each side. Goldberg Brothers bifold hardware stacks two panels into just 5 in of depth, so this setup needs 5 in per side regardless of panel width. The separate 1/2 in minimum refers to the gap between each track end and any hard obstruction on the pivot side. Worth planning for room depth too: the folded panels swing into the room by the panel width plus 1/2 in on each side.

Eight of the seventeen. The nine designer colors — PC Chrome, Regal Red, Rocket White, Blue Ribbon, Flint Gray Texture, Dark Gray Texture, White Bronze Texture, Silver Vein, and Copper Vein — are custom orders and can't be returned for any reason. Everything else returns under the standard 25-day window with pre-approval and a 25% restocking fee.
