Common Questions

The horseshoe uses multiple smaller steel wheels rather than a single roller. More wheels means more contact points on the track, which means the door's load is distributed more widely across the hardware. That distribution is what allows the horseshoe to reach 600 lbs where a single-wheel hanger tops out at 400 lbs. The track and steel thickness are the same as the rest of the heavy duty line — the capacity difference comes entirely from the multi-wheel geometry.

At 600 lbs it's critical, not optional. The entire weight of the door is carried by the track mounting points. Without a solid, continuous header board fastened into the studs, you're concentrating that load at a small number of points in drywall — which will fail over time. Use at minimum a 1×6 hardwood spanning the full track length, fastened securely into every stud. If you're uncertain about your wall structure for a door this heavy, email us before installing.

The horseshoe wagon wheel swaps the multi-wheel steel assembly for a single large spoked wagon wheel and is rated to 400 lbs — the same as a J-strap or flat top strap. This kit uses the standard multi-wheel assembly and is rated to 600 lbs. The wagon wheel version is a decorative choice; this version is a capacity choice. They share the horseshoe frame but are otherwise different products.

Delrin wheels are quieter than steel and worth considering if noise matters for the space — but upgrading reduces the rated capacity from 600 lbs to 400 lbs per door. If your door is over 400 lbs, stay with the steel wheel default. If your door is 400 lbs or under and quiet operation is a priority, the Delrin upgrade is a reasonable choice. Delrin is only available in black, so it will swap your color-matched steel wheels for black Delrin regardless of the hardware finish you've chosen.

Yes — more than on any other product in the collection. A 600 lb door builds significant momentum as it slides and hits the stop with real force. Soft close decelerates the door in the last few inches of travel, protecting the stop, the wall, and the hardware from repeated high-impact contact. We'd recommend it without reservation on any door at this weight.
