Common Questions

The 2-panel frosted glass door has glass filling the full door height — more light transmission, more open feel. This half-lite door has glass in the upper half only, with solid pine planks below — more privacy from the floor up, more grounded visually, closer in character to a traditional half-light door. The half-lite is also lighter at the same width. If the goal is maximum light, the 2-panel door delivers more; if you want the half-and-half look or need solid coverage at the bottom, the half-lite is the right choice.

The vertical stiles have white foam dowels pre-installed. They serve different functions on each half of the door: on the plank (lower) half, keep them in place — they help stabilize the C1, C2, and C3 plank panels and prevent gaps from forming between them. On the glass (upper) half, remove them before sliding in the glass panel — the foam would interfere with proper glass seating. This is the step most customers miss on first assembly, so read through the instructions before starting.

No — the stain applies to the pine frame and the plank bottom section. The frosted glass panel is not stained. White and Tinsmith Gray finishes are applied as a light paint layer to the frame and planks — the wood grain remains visible through those finishes. The glass panel looks the same regardless of which frame finish you choose.

The frosted glass diffuses light and obscures clear visibility — you'll see light and general movement through the upper panel, but not detail. The solid plank lower half provides complete visual separation from the floor up. Overall the half-lite door offers better privacy than an all-glass door since more than half the door surface is opaque solid wood.

Yes — this product is the door panel only. You'll need a separate hardware kit including the track, rollers, floor guide, and handle. See our hardware kits collection, or email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com and we can help confirm the right kit for this door.
