Natural Pine Bifold Barn Door Panels

Total bifold width — sizing depends on your hardware: The right total panel width depends on your opening size and which bifold hardware you're using. Both HVL and Goldberg Brothers hardware share the same minimum coverage formula but differ for fully clear openings.

Minimum coverage (doors close over the frame with small overlap, opening does not fully clear when open): total panel width = opening + 3 in. This applies to both HVL and Goldberg Brothers hardware.

Fully clear — asymmetrical (opening fully clears when open; more overlap on the pivot side than the stack side):

• House value line (HVL) hardware: total panel width = opening + 7 in
• Goldberg Brothers hardware: total panel width = opening + 6 in

Fully clear — symmetrical (opening fully clears with equal overlap on both sides — recommended for the cleanest look):

• House value line (HVL) hardware: total panel width = opening + 12 in
• Goldberg Brothers hardware: total panel width = opening + 10 in

Panel height: Select 80, 84, or 96 in. The panels should be at least 1 in taller than your opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance.

Panel thickness: 1-3/8 in. Compatible with house value line bifold hardware (J-strap: 1 to 1-3/8 in; J top mount: 1 to 2 in) and Goldberg Brothers standard duty bifold hardware (1-1/4 to 1-3/8 in). At 1-3/8 in these panels sit at the minimum for Goldberg Brothers heavy duty bifold hardware — technically compatible, but heavy duty is designed for heavier solid wood and the added capacity won't apply at this thickness.

Two complete door panel sets — both panels are identical and include:

• Solid pine vertical stiles (A) × 2 per panel
• Horizontal rails (B1, B2, B3) × 1 each per panel — B2 varies by door height (80 in and 84 in use different pieces)
• Cross planks (C1) × 2 · Vertical slat planks (C2) — quantity varies by panel width · Cross planks (C3) × 2
• Foam dowels × 8 · Dowels (E) × 10 · Long screws (F) × 10 · Short screws (G) × 64
• Decorative accent panels (D1, D2, H1, H2) — included, optional to install. Creates a plain panel (H), single X, left arrow, or right arrow pattern. Decide before assembling.

All components are pre-drilled. Tools needed: rubber mallet, drill or Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver. Assemble both panels before installing any bifold hardware. If you ordered unfinished panels, apply paint or stain after assembly and before hanging — it's significantly easier to finish flat panels than to work around hardware after installation.

Hardware, handles, and latches are not included.

These panels work with bifold barn door hardware only — they are not sized for standard single-track or bypass sliding hardware. Two main hardware options:

Goldberg Brothers bifold hardware: Made to order in the USA, wider finish selection, wall-mounted pivot — no floor drilling required. The wall-mounted pivot is a significant advantage for openings without a solid floor surface beneath them. Also available in our bifold hardware kits collection.
