Common Questions

Yes — each panel ships as components (stiles, rails, interior panels, accent pieces) and requires assembly before installation. If you ordered an unfinished set, apply paint or stain after assembly and before hanging — it's significantly easier to finish flat assembled panels than to work around hardware after installation.

At 1-3/8 in thick, these panels are compatible with house value line bifold hardware (J-strap range: 1 to 1-3/8 in; J top mount: 1 to 2 in) and Goldberg Brothers standard duty bifold hardware (1-1/4 to 1-3/8 in). At 1-3/8 in they sit at the minimum of the heavy duty range, so they are technically compatible with heavy duty bifold hardware — though heavy duty is designed for heavier solid wood panels and the capacity advantage won't apply to standard pine at this thickness.

Panel width depends on your opening size and which hardware you're using. For Goldberg Brothers hardware with a symmetrical fully clear opening: each panel = (opening + 10 in) ÷ 2. For house value line hardware: each panel = (opening + 6 in) ÷ 2. See our 2-door bifold guide for all sizing formulas and worked examples.

Two sets purchased together would give you four panels for a 4-door biparting setup — two panels per side. Confirm each panel width before ordering. See our 4-door biparting bifold collection for sizing guidance.

It depends on the hardware. House value line bifold hardware uses a floor-mounted pivot — a solid floor surface is required beneath the opening on the pivot side. Goldberg Brothers bifold hardware uses a wall-mounted pivot — no floor drilling required. If your opening has no floor surface beneath it, choose Goldberg Brothers hardware.
