Common Questions

The difference comes down to wheel diameter. Goldberg Brothers bifold rollers are 2-1/2 in in diameter; house value line rollers are 2-3/4 in. The larger HVL wheel changes how the door sits relative to the pivot point when fully open, which means a slightly larger total panel width is needed to achieve the same clear opening. It's a small difference — 2 in between systems for fully clear symmetrical — but it matters when you're selecting from fixed total width increments.

No — both panels ship as flat components and require assembly before installation. All pieces are pre-drilled and the process is the same as our standard barn door panels. Plan for 1–2 hours per panel. If you're adding decorative accent pieces, decide on your pattern (plain, single X, left arrow, or right arrow) before you start — the pieces need to be oriented correctly from the beginning. Keep both panels consistent if you're using decorative accents.

Unfinished ships raw — no stain or paint applied. If you're applying your own finish, assemble the panels first, then finish them before hanging — it's much easier to stain flat assembled panels than to finish around mounted hardware. Stained options are pre-finished before shipment and add time to lead time. White and Tinsmith Gray are applied as a light paint layer — the wood grain remains visible through the finish.

No — these panels are sold as a matched set only. Both panels are made at the same time from the same stock, which ensures they match in grain character and finish. If you need replacement panels or a custom configuration, email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com.

It depends on the hardware. House value line bifold hardware uses a floor-mounted pivot — a solid floor surface is required on the pivot side of the opening. Goldberg Brothers bifold hardware uses a wall-mounted pivot — no floor surface required. If your opening has no floor beneath it (a step-down, raised threshold, or open slab), choose Goldberg Brothers hardware. See our bifold hardware collection for both options.
