Solid pine barn door with chevron-shaped panels running across the face — a herringbone-style pattern that gives the door strong visual texture and a distinctly modern-rustic character. The two C panels can be flipped during assembly to create one of four different chevron arrangements, so the same door can read as a single chevron direction, a symmetrical V, opposing chevrons, or an alternating pattern depending on how you orient the pieces. Decide on your arrangement before you start assembling — orienting the panels correctly from the beginning is significantly easier than adjusting after the fact. Hardware is not included. Available in 8 widths from 26 to 50 in, two heights (80 and 84 in), and 9 finish options including unfinished. Lead times are the same regardless of width: unfinished ships in 3–5 business days, stained in 8–10 business days.

Door width: Measure your rough opening width. For a standard room, add 4 in (2 in overlap each side). For a bedroom or bathroom, add 6 in (3 in each side). The minimum is opening + 1 in (1/2 in per side) — this barely covers the jamb and isn't recommended. Select the width closest to your result. The largest door is 50 in wide — for openings wider than 46 in, a biparting double-door setup often works better in practice.

Door height: Select 80 or 84 in based on your ceiling height and opening. The door should be at least 1 in taller than the opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance. A 96 in option is not available for this door style.

Door thickness: 1-3/8 in. Compatible with standard HVL single-track and bypass hardware and Goldberg Brothers standard duty hardware. Confirm minimum and maximum thickness requirements on your chosen hardware before ordering.

Common Questions

How wide should my door be?

Add 4 in to your rough opening width for a standard room (2 in overlap each side) or 6 in for a bedroom or bathroom (3 in each side). Select the closest available width. For openings requiring a door wider than 50 in, consider a biparting setup with two fishbone panels — it distributes the visual weight more evenly across a wide opening and requires less wall clearance on the slide side.

Do I need to choose my panel arrangement before assembling?

Yes — this is the most important step and the one most customers skip. The two C panels need to be oriented correctly before the door frame is assembled around them. There are four possible chevron arrangements depending on how you flip each panel. Look at all four options first, decide which one you want, then build. Trying to reorient the panels after assembly requires disassembly.

How does the fishbone design differ from the slanted door?

Both the fishbone and slanted doors use two flippable C panels and offer four design arrangements. The difference is the panel shape: the slanted panels are cut at a single diagonal angle — they create bold, graphic arrow and line patterns. The fishbone panels are cut in a V or chevron shape — they create herringbone-style arrangements where two diagonal lines meet at a point. The fishbone pattern has more visual complexity and surface texture; the slanted design is more minimal and architectural. Both are the same size range, thickness, and price.

What's the difference between Unfinished and the stained options?

Unfinished ships raw — no stain applied. This is the right choice if you want to apply your own stain color, match an existing wood finish, or paint the door. Stained options are pre-finished before shipment and take longer to ship. Unlike the classic door's White and Tinsmith Gray options, this door's finish lineup is all true stain colors — no paint-over options.
