Door thickness: 1-3/8 in to 1-3/4 in. Outside this range? See heavy duty hardware.

Wall clearance beside opening: Must equal full door width on the slide side. Limited clearance? See bypass or bifold hardware.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, we recommend installing a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Ceiling clearance above door: 8 in required — measure this first. Less than 8 in? See J-strap (6 in), arrow (6 in), diamond (6 in), straight strap (5 in), or straight top mount (5 in). The spoke wheel's large-diameter roller extends further above the door than any other style in this lineup, which is why it needs the most clearance.

Door width: Your door must be wider than the rough opening. For standard rooms plan for 2 in of wall overlap on each side — opening + 4 in. For bedrooms and bathrooms, 3 in per side gives better privacy — opening + 6 in. Minimum functional overlap is 1/2 in per side. See our measuring guide for full sizing formulas.

Door height: Measure from finished floor to the top of the rough opening and add 1 in. The extra inch covers the top of the opening while leaving 1/2 to 1 in of clearance at the bottom for the door to slide without dragging. If you have thick carpet, check that clearance is adequate along the full travel path before ordering.

The track must be at least 2× the door width for the door to fully clear the opening. Measure the door panel — not the rough opening.

Single door: 2× door width — e.g. 36 in door → 6 ft track minimum

Biparting (2 doors): 2× combined door width — e.g. two 30 in doors → 10 ft track minimum

For biparting: add both door widths together first, then double the combined total. Ordering a track that's too short is the most common mistake. When in doubt, order the next size up.
