Common Questions

Number of tracks and door layers. Double bypass runs two doors on two parallel tracks — fully independent movement and a full clear opening. Triple bypass adds a third track and a third door panel, making it the right choice for wider openings that double bypass can't span with two panels. The tradeoffs are increased header bulk (three tracks vs two) and higher ceiling clearance requirement (10 in vs 6 in). In brushed nickel only — Goldberg Brothers is available by custom quote for other finishes.

The bracketry that supports the second and third tracks — positioning each one at a different depth from the wall — extends further up the wall than a single or double bypass bracket. The 10 in clearance accounts for the full height of this bracket assembly. Single bypass requires 6 in; double bypass requires 8 in. If your ceiling clearance is under 10 in but at least 8 in, double bypass is the better fit. Under 8 in, single bypass is the only bypass option.

Each of the three door layers needs to sit at a different depth to avoid colliding when they slide past each other. The front and back door panels use inverted hangers that mount to the front face of each door. The middle door panel uses a flush hanger that mounts to the back of the door, positioning it at the correct intermediate depth for the middle track. This arrangement — inverted on the outer positions, flush in the center — is what allows all three layers to travel at distinct depths without colliding.

Yes — Goldberg Brothers triple bypass is available by custom quote. It supports heavier doors, thicker panels up to 2-1/4 in, and all 17 Goldberg Brothers powder coat finishes. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your door dimensions, opening width, and finish preference and we'll put together a quote.

Not required, but strongly recommended. The included floor-mounted point guides work for pass-through setups and shorter travel distances. For full clear openings — where each door is traveling its full stacking distance — a continuous floor guide keeps each door's bottom edge constrained and prevents lateral sway. The continuous guide requires permanently routing a slot into your flooring. See our floor guides collection for options, or email us if you're not sure which is right for your setup.
