The cabin hook latch is the most versatile privacy and hold-open solution for sliding barn doors. The hook mounts to the face of the door; the eye mounts to any wall surface nearby. When you want the door to stay in position — open or closed — drop the hook into the eye. Lift it out to release. No 90-degree corner required, no specific door position required. As long as the wall is close enough to reach, the cabin hook works.
This versatility makes it useful in a range of situations: holding the door closed for privacy, holding it fully open so it doesn't drift, or holding it at any intermediate position. It works in the same closed-position application as a 90-degree flip latch, and in many more besides.
The hook is a fixed 4-1/4 in — it does not adjust — so the eye gets mounted wherever that length lands. Mount the hook first, swing it over, and mark the eye where the hook falls with the door resting naturally. Worth checking before you order: your door sits 3/8 in off the wall on standard sliding hardware, 1/2 in on bifold, and 1 in on hidden roller, and casing or baseboard adds to that. If you're on hidden roller hardware or have deep trim, email us before ordering and we'll confirm the reach.
