Common Questions

The front door uses a bent stair-step hanger that positions it forward from the wall. The front door's outer wheel sits between the two wheels of the back door, which runs a standard J-strap hanger close to the track. Because the wheels interleave rather than running side-by-side, both doors can travel the full track length. When one door's travel is exhausted its wheels contact the other door's wheels, carrying the second door along — the telescoping effect. The same wheel interleaving is what creates the center overlap when the doors are in the closed position.

Partially. Each door moves on its own until it reaches the end of its travel, at which point the wheel contact engages the other door and carries it. The doors don't move in full unison — one travels first until its range is exhausted, then the other gets pulled into motion. If you need doors that are fully independent at all times, see our double bypass hardware.

Yes — approximately 6 in at center. This overlap is built into the design: the front door's wheel sits between the back door's wheels, so the two doors can't meet flush edge-to-edge. For most wide openings this is a minor visual detail. Double bypass can achieve edge-to-edge closure since each door has its own dedicated track.

The front door (bent hanger) is controlled by an adjustable wall-mounted floor guide that attaches to the back door — it uses the back door as a reference point to constrain the front door across its full travel range. The back door uses a standard floor-mounted T guide. Both guides are included in the kit. If you'd prefer not to drill into your floors for the back door guide, a wall-mounted alternative is available in our floor guides collection.

House value line hardware is available in the listed track lengths only — no custom sizing. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your opening width and door count and we'll confirm the closest available length that works for your configuration.
