Common Questions

The J-strap mounts to the front face of the door — you'll see the strap and roller from the front. The curved strap wraps over the roller, which rides along the top of the track. No routing or back-face mounting required. The mounting bolt heads are visible on the door face once installed; they ship in black oxide with Matte Black Texture, Black, and Arch Bronze, and clear zinc with Silver Metallic.

Yes, but not this kit as configured. Adding a third roller raises this kit to 300 lbs, since the rating is additive per roller — request it on our custom quote page with your door weight and width. Above that, Goldberg Brothers makes a heavy duty J-strap rated to 400 lbs on a wider 2 in track with steel wheels, and Delrin wheels are available as an add-on there if quiet operation matters. See our heavy duty hardware collection.

Yes, if you order one of the track lengths listed in the options. Those are stock sizes and return under the standard Goldberg Brothers window — 25 days from delivery, with pre-approval and a 25% restocking fee. A length cut to order outside those options is a custom order and can't be returned. "Made to order" refers to the 10-15 day production time, not to your return rights.

Yes. Mount into either solid blocking inside the wall or an external header board — at minimum a 1×6 hardwood spanning the full track length, in oak, maple, or poplar rather than pine. This distributes the door's weight across multiple studs rather than concentrating it at one point, and it lets you position the track exactly where you need it instead of wherever the studs happen to fall.

Usually, and nothing extra to buy — this kit already includes 1/2 in and 1 in extension spacers that stand the track off the wall. How far they reach depends on your door: a 1-3/8 in door clears trim projecting up to 1 in, and a 1-3/4 in door clears up to 1/2 in. Measure how far your trim sticks out from the wall before ordering. If it's deeper than your door thickness allows, heavy duty hardware with its add-on spacer kit reaches 1-1/4 in. Trim that sits above the opening is a different problem — that one is solved by a taller door, not spacers.
