Panel width: Sized based on how much coverage you need over the opening — see the panel sizing section below for formulas and worked examples.

Panel height: Opening height + 1 in.

Panel thickness: 1 in to 2 in.

Ceiling clearance above door: 7 in required between the top of the door panels and the ceiling.

Wall clearance on stack side: For a fully clear opening, 6 in of clear wall is needed on the stack side — two panels fold into just 6 in of depth. A minimum 1/2 in clearance is also required between the end of the track and any adjacent wall on the pivot side — this allows the pivot-side panel to rotate freely during operation.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, we recommend installing a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Ceiling mount is not compatible with bifold hardware.

The fixed hanger attaches to the top edge of the pivot-side panel. The loose hanger attaches to the top edge of the non-pivot panel and travels freely along the track as the doors fold open. No hardware mounts to either door face.

A pull handle, latch, and flush pull are not included — add them before ordering to avoid a second shipment. Soft close is not compatible with bifold hardware.

Bifold sizing is based on total panel width — the combined width of both door panels — not the rough opening. Select the track length closest to your total panel width, rounding up to the next available size if needed. For a full walkthrough see our bifold measuring guide.

Minimum coverage (doors close over the opening with a small overlap on each side):
Total panel width = opening + 3 in · Each panel = (opening + 3 in) ÷ 2
Example: 36 in opening → total = 39 in → each panel = 19.5 in, round up to 20 in → select 48 in track

Fully clear — symmetrical (recommended) (equal overlap on both sides):
Total panel width = opening + 12 in · Each panel = (opening + 12 in) ÷ 2
Example: 36 in opening → total = 48 in → each panel = 24 in → select 48 in track
