A quick, honest note before you order: barn door kits cost roughly three times the price of a hardware-only kit because the door ships with everything. If you have a door in mind already, or if a local lumber yard can supply panels that better match your space, buying the hardware separately is almost always the better value. We say this to every customer who asks.

That said — if you want a complete, ready-to-hang package, the slanted single kit delivers it in one shipment. The door is solid pine with large diagonal panels running across the face — a bolder, more graphic profile than a classic flat-plank design. The diagonal panels can be flipped during assembly to create one of four patterns: a single diagonal direction, a chevron, opposing diagonals, or a mixed arrangement. Decide which pattern you want before assembling. It ships flat for assembly, then hangs on a full black hardware kit with your choice of roller style. The kit also includes a 12 in pull and flush handle set, a wall-mounted floor guide, and a soft-close mechanism. Everything is black hardware.

Available in 9 stain options plus unfinished. Unfinished ships in 3-5 business days. Stained options add 5 business days (8-10 total). Door and hardware ship together in one delivery.

Door width: Measure your rough opening width. For a standard room, add 4 in (2 in overlap each side). For a bedroom or bathroom, add 6 in (3 in each side). Select the door width closest to that result from the available sizes. The largest kit door is 50 in wide — for openings wider than 46 in, a double door kit may be a better fit.

Door height: Select 80 in or 84 in. The door should be at least 1 in taller than the opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance. On carpet or uneven floors, confirm there is enough clearance for the door to slide without dragging.

Track length: Determined automatically by the door width you select — see the sizing reference below. The track ships with the kit.

Ceiling clearance: The clearance required between the top of the door and the ceiling depends on your roller type. Straight Strap and Straight Top Mount require 5 in; J-Strap, Arrow, and Diamond require 6 in; Spoke Wheel requires 8 in. Measure this gap before selecting a roller style.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, install a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Wall clearance: The door slides to the side of the opening. You need at least as much clear wall space beside the opening as the door is wide — confirm there are no light switches, outlets, or trim obstructions in the path.

The minimum door width is 2 in wider than your opening (1 in per side), though this barely covers the jamb frame and isn't ideal for most installations. We recommend at least 4 in wider for standard rooms (2 in per side) and 6 in wider for bedrooms and bathrooms (3 in per side). The sizing reference table shows the absolute maximum opening each door can cover at the 1 in per side minimum — use those figures as a ceiling, not a target. Track lengths run from 4 ft 6 in (26 in door) up to 9 ft (48 and 50 in doors).

How It Works

Common Questions

Does the door come assembled or do I need to build it?

The door ships flat — individual boards packaged separately. You assemble the door panel using the included dowels and screws before hanging it. One important step: decide which of the four diagonal panel patterns you want (single diagonal, chevron, opposing diagonals, or mixed) before you start assembling, since the C panels need to be oriented correctly from the beginning. Assembly requires a drill or Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet; a trigger clamp is optional but helpful for holding panels while fasteners set. Plan for 1–2 hours for door assembly before installation.

What's the difference between Unfinished and the stained options?

Unfinished means the solid pine boards arrive raw — no stain applied. This is the right choice if you want to apply your own stain color, match an existing wood finish precisely, or paint the door a color not in the lineup. Unfinished kits ship in 3–5 business days. Stained kits take 8–10 business days total.

How does this door design differ from the classic barn door style?

The classic barn door uses flat vertical planks with a horizontal mid-rail — a clean, traditional profile. The slanted design adds diagonal brace panels running across the face of the door, creating a more graphic, modern look. The structural construction is the same solid pine; the difference is purely in the visual pattern created by the brace panels on the door face.

Can I use this kit for a bedroom or bathroom door?

Yes — add the 6 in overlap (3 in each side) when selecting your door width to ensure adequate coverage for privacy. Barn doors don't seal like hinged doors — there will be a small gap at the edges — so if sound isolation is a primary concern, a hinged door is the more effective choice. For privacy (not soundproofing), a barn door with proper overlap works well.
