Common Questions

Door thickness range. The straight strap version supports panels from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 in thick; the J-strap version covers 1-1/4 to 1-3/8 in. If your panels sit at 1-3/8 in — the overlap point — either works, but straight strap gives you more headroom as thickness approaches 1-3/4 in. Aesthetically, the straight strap lies flat across the door face without an overhead curve; the J-strap has a straight face piece with a J-curve that wraps over the roller above. Both are available in matte black; J-strap is also available in brushed nickel.

Each of the three door layers needs to sit at a different depth to move past each other freely. The front and back panels use inverted hangers that mount to the front face of each door. The middle panel uses a flush hanger that mounts to the back of the door, positioning it at the correct intermediate depth for the middle track. This arrangement is what allows all three layers to travel independently without interfering with each other.

The bracketry that supports the second and third tracks — positioning each at a different depth from the wall — extends further up the wall than a single or double bypass bracket assembly. The 10 in clearance accounts for the full height of this bracket. Single bypass requires 6 in; double bypass requires 8 in. If your ceiling clearance is under 10 in but at least 8 in, double bypass is the better fit. Under 8 in, single bypass is the only bypass option.

Yes — Goldberg Brothers triple bypass is available by custom quote. It supports heavier doors, thicker panels up to 2-1/4 in, and all 17 Goldberg Brothers powder coat finishes. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your door dimensions, opening width, and finish preference and we'll put together a quote.

Not required, but strongly recommended. The included floor-mounted point guides work for pass-through setups and shorter travel distances. For full clear openings, a continuous floor guide keeps each door's bottom edge constrained across the entire travel range and prevents lateral sway. It requires permanently routing a slot into your flooring. See our floor guides collection, or email us if you're not sure which is right for your setup.
