If you have a door in mind already, or if a local lumber yard can supply panels that better match your space, buying the hardware separately is almost always the better value. We say this to every customer who asks.

That said — if you want a complete, ready-to-hang package, the vertical slat double kit delivers a complete biparting setup in one shipment. Two solid pine panels with vertical slat panels slide from opposite sides and meet in the middle, covering wider openings with clean, contemporary texture across the full door surface. Unlike the diagonal-pattern kits, the vertical slat design has one configuration — no pattern decision needed. Everything is black hardware: two full roller sets, two handle sets, two wall-mounted floor guides, and two soft-close mechanisms.

Door width per panel: Measure your rough opening width. For a standard room, add 4 in then divide by 2 (2 in overlap per side, 1 in per door at center). For a bedroom or bathroom, add 6 in then divide by 2 (3 in overlap per side). Example: 56 in opening, standard room → (56 + 4) ÷ 2 = 30 in per panel. For openings wider than 46 in, a double door biparting kit is likely the better fit — two panels that slide from opposite sides cover larger openings. Door height: Select 80 in or 84 in. The door should be at least 1 in taller than the opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance. On carpet or uneven floors, confirm there is enough clearance for the door to slide without dragging.

Track length: Determined automatically by the door width you select — see the sizing reference below. One shared track spans the full biparting distance.

Ceiling clearance: The clearance required between the top of each door panel and the ceiling depends on your roller type. Straight Strap and Straight Top Mount require 5 in; J-Strap, Arrow, and Diamond require 6 in; Spoke Wheel requires 8 in. Measure this gap before selecting a roller style.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, install a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Wall clearance: In a biparting setup, each door slides to one side of the opening. You need at least as much clear wall space on each side as the width of one door panel — confirm there are no switches, outlets, or trim obstructions on either side.

Do both door panels assemble the same way?

Both panels are identical in construction. Assemble both before hanging either one. No pattern decision needed before assembling — the C panels install in the same orientation on both doors. Assembly requires a drill or Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet; a trigger clamp is optional but helpful. Plan for 2–3 hours total for door assembly before installation.

What's the difference between Unfinished and the stained options?

Unfinished means the solid pine boards arrive raw — no stain applied. This is the right choice if you want to apply your own stain color, match an existing wood finish precisely, or paint the door a color not in the lineup. Unfinished kits ship in 3-5 business days. Stained kits take 8-10 business days total.

How does the vertical slat design differ from the classic barn door style?

The classic barn door uses flat vertical planks with a horizontal mid-rail — the plank faces are smooth and uninterrupted. The vertical slat design adds C panels with narrow vertical grooves running the full height of each door half, creating a textured, contemporary surface. Both are solid pine construction; the difference is the surface texture the slat panels create across the door face.

Can I use this kit for a bedroom or bathroom door?

Yes — use the 6 in formula (add 6 in to the opening width, divide by 2) when selecting your panel width. Barn doors don't seal like hinged doors — there will be a small gap at the edges and at the center meeting point — so if sound isolation is a primary concern, a hinged door is the more effective choice. For privacy (not soundproofing), a barn door with proper overlap works well.
