Common Questions

That depends on your ceiling more than anything else. This hanger needs 9 in of clearance above the top of the door, where the J-strap and flat top strap need 5-1/2 in and the standard duty hangers need 4 to 4-1/2 in. Measure from the top of your finished door to the ceiling before choosing a finish. If you're short, the J-strap and flat top strap carry the same 400 lbs in the space you have.

A statement. The spoked wheel is large and fully visible above and in front of the door as it rides the track. This is intentional hardware — you're meant to see it. If you want the hardware to disappear, the flat top strap or a top mount is the better direction. If you want it to be a focal point, this is the one hanger in the lineup that delivers that.

Not with the spoked wheel on a stock kit. The horseshoe wagon wheel shares this same 400 lb rating, so it isn't a step up in capacity — the 600 lb rating belongs to the heavy duty horseshoe, which uses paired standard rollers rather than a spoked wheel. A third hanger will raise this kit's rating while keeping the wagon wheel; send your door weight and dimensions to our custom quote page and we'll spec it.

No. It's a decorative replacement for the standard roller, not a different mechanism — it rides the same 2 in track the same way any heavy duty hanger does. One practical note: unlike the other heavy duty kits, the Delrin wheel option isn't offered with this hanger, so the quieter-wheel upgrade isn't available here. Sealed bearings run dry either way, so nothing gets lubricated.

On a door this heavy, yes. A 400 lb door builds real momentum and hits the track stop hard. Soft close decelerates it over the last few inches, which protects the stop, the wall, and the hardware from repeated impact. It can be added at checkout or retrofitted later, and it's covered as a wear item for one year rather than under the limited lifetime warranty.
