Yes — it's one of the two primary reasons to choose stainless. Standard powder-coated steel hardware is designed for interior use. Exposed to sustained moisture, salt air, or rain, the powder coat will eventually chip and the underlying steel will corrode. Stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant alloy throughout — it doesn't rely on a surface coating to resist moisture. For coastal properties, covered exterior installations, outdoor showers, and pool houses, stainless is the right material long-term.

In a dry interior environment, powder coat holds up well for years — you don't need stainless for corrosion resistance. The reason to choose stainless for an interior install is the finish itself: the raw stainless look, in particular, produces a refined, high-end aesthetic that powder coat doesn't replicate. It costs more and takes longer to produce, but if the hardware finish is a meaningful part of your design, the difference is visible.

Stainless steel is more complex to machine and fabricate than standard steel. Each kit is still custom-manufactured to your specifications, but the material requires additional processing time — 14–21 business days versus 10–15 for standard Goldberg hardware. If your project has a hard deadline, account for that lead time before ordering.
