Common Questions

In a double bypass system, the bracket that holds the outer track must arch up and over the rollers of the inner track so the two systems don't interfere with each other. That bracket height — the clearance needed to clear the inner track's roller assembly — is what drives the higher ceiling clearance requirement. Straight strap single track and single bypass need only 5 in because there is just one roller assembly above the door. Double bypass needs 8 in to accommodate the bracket clearing the inner track's rollers. If you have exactly 5 in of clearance, double bypass is not the right configuration.

Single bypass puts both doors on one shared track. The doors are linked by wheel contact and produce a telescoping effect — when one door's travel is exhausted, its wheels carry the other door along. Double bypass gives each door its own dedicated track. The doors move fully independently, never share roller contact, and can stack completely behind each other. There is no mandatory center overlap in double bypass.

Yes — because each door has its own track, the rollers never collide and both doors can travel completely past each other and stack fully. This is not possible with single bypass, where roller contact on the shared track prevents complete stacking.

Not with the house value line. Telescoping is only available on Goldberg Brothers double bypass with the telescoping add-on. If telescoping is the primary goal, single bypass naturally produces this effect through wheel collision and may be a better fit.

House value line hardware is available in the listed lengths only. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com with your opening width and door count and we'll confirm the best available option.
