Straight Strap Brushed Nickel Double Bypass Barn Door Hardware Kit

Ceiling clearance above door: 8 in required. In a double bypass system, the bracket holding the outer track must arch up and over the rollers of the inner track so both systems don't interfere. That bracket height above the inner track's rollers is what requires more ceiling clearance than a single track installation.

Door gap when closed: A minimum 2 in gap between doors is recommended. No mandatory overlap — doors sit on separate tracks and can be positioned independently.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, we recommend installing a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Door width: Each door must cover roughly half the opening, plus the chosen wall overlap on the outer edge, plus the planned overlap between the two doors at center. For standard rooms plan for 2 in of wall overlap on the outer edge; for bedrooms and bathrooms, 3 in gives better privacy. See our measuring guide for full door sizing formulas.

Door height: Measure from finished floor to the top of the rough opening and add 1 in. The extra inch covers the top of the opening while leaving 1/2 to 1 in of clearance at the bottom for the door to slide without dragging. If you have thick carpet, check that clearance is adequate along the full travel path before ordering.

Track length: Depends on whether you need pass-through or fully clear access — see track length section below.

The included floor guide is floor-mounted. A wall-mounted floor guide is an option for fully clear opening setups — however, fully clear openings are difficult without the telescoping effect because floor guides can lose engagement as the doors travel. For fully clear openings we recommend our continuous floor guide as the most reliable solution.

3-door configuration: One additional standard roller set included. 4-door configuration: Double the standard hanger/roller set hardware of the 2-door kit. Email us before ordering 3 or 4 doors to confirm the right track length.

Hardware kits don't include handles, a latch, or soft close — plan for these before checkout:

Handle: For the room-facing side of each door — browse our handles collection

Steel wheels: Bypass doors should stay under 110 lbs so nylon wheels are usually sufficient. If you prefer the look of metal wheels, steel wheels are compatible — note they are louder than nylon. Shop steel wheels

Both tracks in a double bypass system are the same length. Track length depends on whether you need pass-through access or a fully clear opening.

Pass-through (partial access): The track must be at least the opening width plus the planned door overhang outside the opening on each side. For example: 60 in opening with 2 in overhang on each side → at least 64 in → round up to 5 ft 6 in (66 in).

Clear opening (fully unobstructed): Measure door panel width, not rough opening:

2 doors: 3× door width — e.g. two 36 in doors → 9 ft minimum

3 doors: 5× door width — e.g. three 36 in doors → 15 ft minimum

4 doors: 6× door width — e.g. four 36 in doors → 18 ft minimum
