Unlike the diagonal-pattern doors, the vertical slat design has one configuration: the C panels install in the same orientation and produce a consistent slat pattern across the door face. Available in 8 widths from 26 to 50 in, two heights (80 and 84 in), and 9 finish options including unfinished. Unfinished ships in 3-5 business days; stained options ship in 8–10 business days.

Door width: Measure your rough opening width. For a standard room, add 4 in (2 in overlap each side). For a bedroom or bathroom, add 6 in (3 in each side). The minimum is opening + 1 in (1/2 in per side) — this barely covers the jamb and isn't recommended. Select the width closest to your result. The largest door is 50 in wide — for openings wider than 46 in, a biparting double-door setup often works better in practice.

Door height: Select 80 or 84 in based on your ceiling height and opening. The door should be at least 1 in taller than the opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance. A 96 in option is not available for this door style.

Door thickness: 1-3/8 in. Compatible with standard HVL single-track and bypass hardware and Goldberg Brothers standard duty hardware. Confirm minimum and maximum thickness requirements on your chosen hardware before ordering.

How wide should my door be?

Add 4 in to your rough opening width for a standard room (2 in overlap each side) or 6 in for a bedroom or bathroom (3 in each side). Select the closest available width. For openings requiring a door wider than 50 in, consider a biparting setup with two vertical slat panels — it distributes the visual weight more evenly across a wide opening and requires less wall clearance on the slide side.

Does the door come assembled or do I need to build it?

The door ships as flat components and requires assembly before installation. All pieces are pre-drilled. Unlike the diagonal-pattern doors (slanted, fishbone, patterned), there is no pattern decision to make before you start — the vertical slat C panels install in the same orientation and produce a consistent result. Assembly typically takes 1–2 hours. A trigger clamp is optional but helpful for holding panels while fasteners set.

How does the vertical slat design compare to the other pattern doors?

The slanted, fishbone, and patterned doors all use diagonal C panels that can be flipped to create 4 or 16 design arrangements. The vertical slat door uses panels with vertical grooves — the slats run straight up and down, not at an angle. There is only one configuration, but the visual character is distinct: cleaner, more uniform, closer to a shiplap or V-groove look than a brace pattern. It's also slightly heavier per width than the diagonal-pattern doors due to the solid slat construction.

What's the difference between Unfinished and the stained options?

Unfinished ships raw — no stain or finish applied, and ships in 3-5 business days. This is the right choice if you want to apply your own stain color or paint finish. Stained options are pre-finished before shipment and take 8–10 business days. The stain lineup for this door is all true stain colors — no paint-over options like White or Tinsmith Gray. The slat texture can create an interesting effect under stain, with the groove lines picking up color slightly differently than the flat faces.
