A quick, honest note before you order: barn door kits cost roughly three times the price of a hardware-only kit because the door ships with everything. If you have doors in mind already, or if a local lumber yard can supply panels that better match your space, buying the hardware separately is almost always the better value. We say this to every customer who asks.

That said — the patterned single kit delivers a complete, ready-to-hang package in one shipment. A solid pine door with a diagonal stripe pattern covering the full door surface, delivering strong visual texture in a single sliding panel. What makes the patterned design distinctive is the number of arrangements available — the C panels can be flipped and combined to create 16 different looks, from symmetrical to opposing to alternating patterns. Choose your arrangement before you start assembling. Everything is black hardware: a full roller set, handle set, wall-mounted floor guide, and soft-close mechanism.

Available in 8 stain options — no unfinished option on this style. All options ship in 8-10 business days. Door and hardware ship together in one delivery.

Door width per panel: Measure your rough opening width. For a standard room, add 4 in (2 in overlap each side). For a bedroom or bathroom, add 6 in (3 in each side). Select the door width closest to that result. The largest door is 50 in wide — for openings wider than 46 in, a double door kit may be a better fit.

Door height: Select 80 in or 84 in. The door should be at least 1 in taller than the opening — more is fine — to leave adequate floor clearance. On carpet or uneven floors, confirm there is enough clearance for the door to slide without dragging.

Ceiling clearance: The clearance required between the top of the door and the ceiling depends on your roller type. Straight Strap and Straight Top Mount require 5 in; J-Strap, Arrow, and Diamond require 6 in; Spoke Wheel requires 8 in. Measure this gap before selecting a roller style.

Track length: Determined automatically by the door width you select — see the sizing reference below. The track ships with the kit.

Wall header: A solid header above the opening is required for track mounting. If there is no existing header or backing in the wall, install a minimum 1×6 hardwood board (3/4 in thick × 5-1/2 in wide) that extends past the length of the track to the next stud or structural support point on each side. Wall clearance: The door slides to the side of the opening. You need at least as much clear wall space beside the opening as the door is wide — confirm there are no light switches, outlets, or trim obstructions in the path.

Tools needed for door assembly: drill or Phillips screwdriver, rubber mallet. A trigger clamp is optional but helpful for holding panels in position during assembly.

Start with your rough opening width. The minimum door width is 2 in wider than your opening (1 in per side), though this barely covers the jamb frame and isn't ideal for most installations. We recommend at least 4 in wider for standard rooms (2 in per side) and 6 in wider for bedrooms and bathrooms (3 in per side). Select the available size closest to your result. The track length ships automatically based on your selection.

The sizing reference table shows the absolute maximum opening each panel width can cover at the 1 in per side minimum — use those figures as a ceiling, not a target. Track lengths run from 4 ft 6 in (26 in door) up to 9 ft (48 and 50 in doors).

How It Works

Common Questions

Does the door come assembled or do I need to build it?

The door ships flat — individual boards packaged separately. You assemble the panel using the included dowels and screws before hanging. The critical step upfront: choose your diagonal stripe panel arrangement from the 16 possible designs before you start, since the C panels need to be oriented correctly from the beginning. Assembly requires a drill or Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet; a trigger clamp is optional but helpful. Plan for 1–2 hours for door assembly before installation.

Why isn't there an unfinished option for this door style?

The patterned door's C panels are pre-finished as part of the door design — an unfinished option isn't available on this style. If you need an unfinished door to apply your own stain or paint, the Classic Single, Slanted Single, or Fishbone Single kits all offer an unfinished option.

How does the patterned design differ from the fishbone and slanted designs?

All three use flippable C panels to create pattern variations. The slanted panels run at a single diagonal angle (4 designs). The fishbone panels are V-shaped/chevron (4 designs). The patterned panels have a more complex diagonal stripe construction that generates 16 different arrangements — significantly more design flexibility at the same build complexity. The visual result is a denser, more intricate surface texture than either the slanted or fishbone designs.

Can I use this kit for a bedroom or bathroom?

Yes — add 6 in to your opening width when selecting your door width for better privacy coverage. Barn doors don't seal like hinged doors — there will be a small gap at the edges — so if sound isolation is the primary concern, a hinged door is the more effective choice. For privacy, a properly sized barn door works well.
