Four-door one-way bifold hardware uses four panels that fold and stack entirely to one side of the opening — all panels go to the pivot side, leaving the full opening clear. It covers wider openings than a 2-door bifold while still requiring wall clearance on only one side. Goldberg Brothers J top mount only — no house value line and no J-strap at this door count. For the full bifold buying guide, see our bifold hardware collection.
How 4-door one-way bifold works
A 4-door one-way bifold uses four panels arranged as two 2-panel assemblies, both hinged together in series on the same track. One end pivots from a fixed bracket on the pivot side. The other end slides along the track. When opened, both assemblies fold accordion-style and stack against the pivot wall — all four panels compressing into a 10 in stack on one side, leaving the full opening clear.
J top mount is the only available hanger style for this configuration. A J-strap or face-mounted hanger would become sandwiched inside the panel stack as the doors fold, preventing the clean 5 in per fold stack depth. J top mount mounts to the top edge of the door, keeping the face of every panel completely clear of hardware.
All four panels stack to the pivot side only — confirm you have approximately 10 in of clear wall space on that side plus clearance in front of the opening as the panels project outward while folding.
Sizing your 4-door one-way bifold
Track length equals total panel width — not 2× panel width as with standard sliding hardware. Calculate total panel width first, then order a track of that length.
| Coverage goal | Total panel width (all 4 panels) | Track length |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum coverage (2 in pivot side, 1 in non-pivot side) |
Opening + 3 in | = Total panel width |
| Fully clear — asymmetrical (standard — pivot side stacks, non-pivot side has 1 in overlap) |
Opening + 11 in | = Total panel width |
| Fully clear — symmetrical (equal overlap on both sides) |
Opening + 20 in | = Total panel width |
Example for a 60 in opening (asymmetrical, fully clear): Total panel width = 71 in · Track = 71 in · Each of 4 panels ≈ 17.75 in wide
Maximum opening coverage: up to 189 in (heavy duty). For openings requiring coverage on both sides, see our 6-door biparting bifold collection. For sizing help, see our measuring guide.
Standard duty vs. heavy duty
Both tiers are Goldberg Brothers, made to order in Denver, Colorado in 10–15 business days. All 17 Goldberg Brothers powder coat colors are available in both tiers. The decision between tiers is door panel weight and thickness.
