Common Questions

The track is wider — 2 in versus 1-1/2 in on the standard — and the hardware is proportionally wider to match. The steel is the same 3/16 in thickness. The wider profile distributes the door's load more effectively across the track and hardware, which is what allows this kit to handle up to 400 lbs versus the standard J-strap's 200 lbs. It's a geometry and sizing difference, not a material thickness difference.

If quiet operation matters for the space — bedroom, bathroom, shared wall, any room where door noise is noticeable — Delrin wheels are worth adding. They're quieter than steel wheels and produce less vibration. The tradeoff: Delrin is only available in black, so if you've chosen any other finish, upgrading to Delrin changes the wheel color to black regardless of the hardware finish. For most installs that's not visible, but worth knowing before you select.

The standard duty line carries four finishes — matte black, black, arch bronze, and silver metallic. The heavy duty line is available in all 17 Goldberg Brothers finishes, including designer colors like Jacob's gold, copper vein, and regal red. If a specific finish drove you to this collection, that's a completely valid reason to be here even if your door is under 200 lbs.

Yes — the heavy duty horseshoe kit is rated to 600 lbs, the highest capacity in our collection. It uses multiple wheels to distribute the additional load. Email us with your door weight and dimensions before ordering so we can confirm the right configuration.

More so than on lighter doors. A heavy door builds significant momentum as it slides and hits the track stop hard without a damper. Soft close decelerates the door in the last few inches of travel, reducing the impact force on the stop, the wall, and the hardware over time. We'd recommend it on any heavy door — bedroom or not.
