Triple bypass hardware runs three doors on three independent tracks — the right solution for very wide openings, room dividers, and closet systems where three panels need to slide and stack independently. House value line only, rated to 220 lbs total system weight; Goldberg Brothers triple bypass is available by custom quote. Track length and door width formulas are specific to this configuration — see the guide below. Not sure which bypass configuration fits your opening? Use our hardware finder.
| Single bypass | Double bypass | Triple bypass | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracks | 1 shared track | 2 parallel tracks | 3 parallel tracks |
| Door layers | 2–4 doors | 2–4 doors | 3 doors |
| Door movement | Telescoping — sequential | Fully independent | Fully independent |
| Full clear opening | No — rollers collide before full stack | Yes | Yes |
| Center overlap required | 6–9 in (mechanical minimum) | ~2 in recommended | ~2 in recommended |
| Minimum ceiling clearance | 6 in | 8 in | 10 in |
| Total weight limit | 220 lbs | 220 lbs (value line) / 250 lbs per door (Goldberg) | 220 lbs (value line) / custom (Goldberg) |
| Flush closure | No | No | No |
| Hardware visibility | Low profile | Moderate | Most visible |
No bypass configuration — single, double, or triple — can achieve a flush closure or a center seal. The door layers always sit at different depths. If flush closure is a requirement, bypass isn't the right configuration for the project.

Track length and door width
Door width
For three equal-width panels, each door = (opening + 8 in) ÷ 3. This accounts for a recommended 2 in of overlap between each adjacent door pair (2 junctions × 2 in = 4 in) and 2 in of wall overlap on each outer door (2 sides × 2 in = 4 in).
Example: 60 in opening → (60 + 8) ÷ 3 = 68 ÷ 3 = 22-2/3 in per door.
Track length for a clear opening
Use the individual door panel width — not the rough opening — for this calculation:
| Door count | Track length for full clear opening | Example — 22-2/3 in doors (60 in opening) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 doors | 4× door width | 4 × 22-2/3 = 90-2/3 in → select 8 ft track |
For all bypass track length formulas including single and double bypass in one reference, see our bypass track guide and bypass measuring guide.
Track length for pass-through access
For pass-through only — where doors need to move but don't need to fully clear the opening — the track just needs to be slightly longer than the opening width to account for your desired door overlap on each side when closed.
Example: 60 in opening + 2 in overlap each side = 64 in → select 5 ft 6 in track.
For a partial stack somewhere between pass-through and full clear, email us with your opening width and target clearance and we'll calculate the right length.
Non-standard track lengths are available and priced the same as the next standard size up. Email us at info@thebarndoorhardwarestore.com before ordering so we can confirm the custom length and quote correctly.
